Visual Design Guidance Document Updates

Visual Design Guidance Document Version 2.0 – Updated September 27, 2017

The authors want to thank the researchers from NOAA’s Climate Program Office whose comments and suggestions have contributed to the improvements made to the Guidance Document in this update.

Minor wording changes to improve the flow and understandability of the text (e.g. by removing or better explaining jargon) were made throughout the main report.

New additions to the report happened in the following sections:

Section 3.2.3 Clutter

Added sample graphics illustrating a graphic depicting a complex data set as presented by Harold et al. (2016):

  • Image 9a, example presented by the authors and taken from the 2013 IPCC report)
  • Image 9b, same IPCC graphic with authors’ annotations
  • Image 9c, cleaner graphic of the same data set redesigned by the authors

Section 4.4 Metadata
